We are reviewing low-cost high-quality EEG devices since at least tree years:

But we made very negative experiences with EEG devices which contains the ADS1299 EEG chip from Texas Instruments. These EEG devices are for instance OpenBCI modules from www.OpenBCI.com, the ADS1299EEGFE-PDK Evaluation board from Texas Instruments, OpenBCI modules sold on Aliexpress and eBay, HackEEG and PiEEG. You can find our experiences with these devices in our journal.
An alternative is to build EEG devices from the ADS1115 chip.
There are some newer devices reviewed by Cody Rall MD from which we suppose that they contain this chip. For channels is low but in principle sufficient, as the great succsess of the Muse headband has shown. We could build EEG devices from the ADS1299 EEG chip by ourselves either. But is the ADS1115 chip not used for more applations than the ADS1299 EEG, and therefore the risk for marketing trusts and stock market speculations lower?
But is the architecture of the ADS1115 chip not simpler? And if we build our own device on www.OpenBCI.com, the ADS1299EEGFE-PDK Evaluation board from Texas Instruments, OpenBCI modules sold on Aliexpress and eBay, HackEEG and PiEEG, we always have someone why tries to maximize profit from us.
If we develop our own printed circuit board, this risk is gone.
We are beginners in the field of soldering and coding electronic components, and will remain it eventually forever. Therefore we hope on How To Electronics and Adafruit who show us how to build such devices. But also as a rule of thumb, is it not better to study papers which do not have a conflict of interests, if we want to build our own device which does not have the decribed isses:
