1. Ed Humble developed a Ubuntu Unity with a 4.12 Patched Kernel GITHUB project 6 years ago:
https://www.youtube.com/@EdHumble/about
- He says he never get Lubuntu to work on the LattePanda V1
- He further says DFRobot did not take over his patches for their Lubuntu instruction
- According to the instructional video, we can see that there is a 32 inch Samsung monitor connected over HDMI to the device
- If we look at the issues, we can see that several users tested this installation and wrote issues about it, which means, that the installation instruction was taken over by several Linux users.
- It says:
- Everything the LattePanda has on board works:
- wireless
- Bluetooth
- The instruction is 6 years old:
https://github.com/mopplayer/lattepanda-mainline-4.11
- we do not know if touch displays work with it
2. Lunbutu 20.04 by DFRobot
- It is fast and optimized for speed
- This is great for a 6 year old LattePanda, especially if we install it on an SSD
- they did not take over the above patches
- It says:
“In the end, we installed Lunbutu 20.04 perfectly on the LattePanda, which solved the problems of:
- BT
- Wifi
- Audio Output
- Touch Panel
- IGD (the MIPI interface display, “IGD” which means built-In Graphics Display)
- and used the optimized kernel of Lubuntu to improve the performance of the LattePanda
It further says: - If you have time, you can customize the ISO disc image file to be suitable for the LP, including:
• Turning off the default built-in output, and utilizing the HDMI output signal instead
• Give Docker support to and get better performance out of our optimized kernel
• Make a pre-installed touch screen driver
• Change io scheduling and add more file system support
• Pre-install the SSH Server”

It says nothing about that HDMI works, but it does not say that it does not work either
Here we have another installation instruction:
3. Install Lubuntu Customized for Cherry Trail CPU
Here it says:
https://www.lattepanda.com/forum/topic/314588
- “I connected the monitor via HDMI
instead of
- the MIPI interface display (hereinafter referred to as “IGD”, built-In Graphics Display),
- which only led to wallpapers on the monitor without icons and taskbars, because, as it turns out, the main output went to the unconnected IGD.
- It really was just. . . blindly turning on the terminal, then entering sudo poweroff to turn off the machine first, and then plugging in the display and touch panel, and then finding out that
- the touch panel does not respond.
“
Which instruction to choose: let us choose one after the other and install those on different SSDs so that we can swap those.
- The LattePanda has a BIOS, which recognizes different usb SSD drives
- We can also flash several installations on several SSD drives and swap them, which means we do not need a bootloader software
These instructions here are very detailed, and there are no images available to download. But are they not one of the most helpful instructions if compare them to those of other devices we reviewed in our journal? Instructions from 6 year old devices are often better debugged than those from the newest devices.
