Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche

meditated around 20 years of his life in solitary retreat as we mentioned here:

and was given the title «His Holiness». But we had persons who lived similarly to Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche in Switzerland and where declaired to be holy persons as well. Why did other declare those as holy persons? Is it since they took care of other people’s souls? They lived in solitary retreat, but they studied holy texts from spiritual leaders how to become a holy person. And they also gave advice to people how to become a holy person to those who where seeking for this advice.

Niclaus von Flue

was respected as a man of complete moral integrity. He is known for having fasted for over twenty years. Brother Klaus’s counsel helped prevent war between the Swiss cantons (1481):

Meinrad of Einsiedeln

Meinrad was born into the family of the Counts of Hohenzollern and became a monk and was ordained. At around 829 he embraced an eremitical life and established his hermitage on the slopes of Etzel Pass. In 835 he retreated to a hermitage in the forest on the site of today’s monastery in Einsiedeln. Meinrad practiced a strict asceticism:
