The Pinephone, the Muse Headband & products based on the ADS1299 EEG chip from Texas Instruments, outdated concepts in the year 2024?

Last Updated on April 19, 2024 by pg@petergamma.org

Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org invested a lot of time in reviewing these three products. Here is his conclusion:

Pinephone

  • He wrote 49 posts in the Pine64 forum about LibreOffice on the Pinephone, but he gave this project up:

https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=16614

  • He wrote 78 posts about the Pinephone on his site:

the Muse Headband

  • There where 39 comments on the LSL GITHUB about that the Muse SDK is no longer available:

https://github.com/sccn/labstreaminglayer/issues/30

  • We wrote 48 posts posts about the Muse on our site:

ADS1299

  • There were 107 posts in the EEVBLOG about affordable ADS1299 products which we did not find to the present day:

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/how-to-solve-the-ti-ads1299-eeg-demo-kit-is-not-save-for-humans-problem

  • We wrote 133 posts about the TI ADS1299 on our site:

https://petergamma.org/tag/ads1299

  • 444 posts about OpenBCI:

https://petergamma.org/tag/openbci

  • 75 posts about OpenBCI made in China:

Pinephone

  • Peter Gamma owns a Pinephone, it took him about a month to install LibreOffice on it, but then he put his Pinephone on the screed.

Muse Headband

  • He owns several Muse headbands, but he did not find an easy solution for sensor streaming, so he will replace the Muse Headband as soon as possible.

products which are based on the ADS1299 EEG chip from Texas Instruments

  • He owns an OpenBCI Cyton, he never tested.
  • And an OpenBCI WIFI shield, he never tested.
  • And a second WIFI shield which was sent do him instead of a OpenBCI Bluetooth dongle, but it was not worth sending it back.
  • He never used these OpenBCI products.
  • He neither used or tesed OpenBCI products to the present day.
  • And he will replace these OpenBCI products or add products which are based on InfluxDB and TGAM EEG modules as soon as possible.

The Pinephone, products which are based on the ADS1299 EEG chip from TI, and the Muse Headband, are these outdated concepts in the year 2024? What is your opinion about this topic? Write it in the comments below.
