Issues with the N100 Edge x86 prototype SBC

Last Updated on April 29, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

  • It has a x86 processor, but it is only a prototype.
  • It cannot be found not on the marked, and is not a finished product, it can therefore not replace LattePandas which are pulled from the market at Digitec Switzerland.
  • It has already a massive headsink, but we prefer a passive solution, since we need it for a mobile solution with little power draw.
  • Is the device compatible with Raspberry Pi passive solutions?
  • For the Raspberry Pi are severeal passive cooling options available, which have been intensively tested.
  • Altough the N100 Edge x86 SBC has a massive headsink, the video shows, that the temperature goes up to 70 degrees during long runs.
  • We are looking for device which runs 24 * 7.
  • Where are the temperature tests with passive cooling for 24 * 7?
  • There are different devices which offer x86, they come and go, and we cannot keep up with reviewing those all.
  • It would be highly desirable to have a brand which is mature and stable.
  • If we see the difficulties with Linux and LattePandas, how is it with this device? The LattePanda V1 required a patched kernel to run Ubuntu. That Lubuntu runs on the LattePanda V1 never has been demonstrated.
  • This device is a prototype, the LattePanda (3) Delta was available at Digitec Switzerland, but then pulled from the market there.
  • If this because of our reviews?
  • The LattePanda (3) Delta would have been to solution, and the answer to our critisisms, so why it was pulled from the market at Digitec we cannot follow.
  • The release of a x86 prototype is no reason to pull the LattePanda (3) Delta from the market of Digitec Switzerland, this device is not an appropriate replacement.
  • We still are irritated by the procedure of LattePanda also after the release of this new x86 prototype SBC.
  • The LattePandas have a large documentation which we reviewed and criticized.
  • This device has no documentation to this date.
  • If this device manufacturer is entangled with LattePanda, is this a fair procedure to pull the LattePanda (3) Delta from the market for Digitec Switzerland and replace it with a prototype which is not on the market?
  • Are some gaming demos as shown in the above video enough to replace the intense tests the LattePanda´s already have behind them?
  • It is highly desirable, if this devices comes on the market, that it offers a Linux version with a lightweight Linux OS version, preferentialy Lubuntu.
  • Lubuntu is a good choice for x86 SBC since it does not require powerful SBC.
  • If this device comes on the market in Switzerland it is also highly desirable to have a device offered without Windows licence, since Linux is the most cost effective way to solve licencing problems with Windows.
  • There where big issues with LattePanda devices and Linux, and there still are. For instance that there is no LattePanda version available in Switzerland which offers Linux by the manufacturer and has been demonstrated that it runs.
  • For costumers who want to buy their product at Digitec Switzerland, where the LattePanda pulled the LattePanda (3) Delta from the marked for reasons we cannot follow, there is as far as we know now x86 SBCsolution available, or at least non which is popular, or non which we know.
  • There was a satisfying solution from LattePandas with the LattePanda Delta which offers Linux, but this is gone.
  • Why a good solution with Linux and x86 from LattePanda was pulled from the market which was offered at Digitec Switzerland is something we do not understand.
  • It would be highly desirable that the manufacturer of this product resolves the issues we mentioned here to become a product which can compete with the LattePanda with Linux or even is better and more costumer friendly.
