How many of the YouTube videos are paid promotional videos & are they really helpful – a case study about NextCloudPi and the Pinephone

In our NextCloudPi installation series we are now at day 21 and we still do not have a working setup.

We installed today NextCloudPi on a Pi 3 instead of a Pi 4.

As we had i before we had the issue that after the installation the first time setup wizard was not there. We checked the NextCloudPi installation video for the Pi 4 from AppleCast:

And after a fist quick look, we did not see any difference in the installation video to the Pi 3 instruction. And also the image which is necessary is the same as for the Pi 3.

The installation video of Apple Cast looks like a promotional video on TV. But our user experience is completely different. After 21 days we still not have a working setup. And we worked every day a little bit until we lost our patience.

But that means the NextCloudPi causes since 21 days daily anger in us. The wonderful installation videos strongly differ from our user exerience.

Are not user forum more helpful than YouTube video makers? Users who share their experience with a product?

We have a NextCloudPi fourm:

This forum is not very active. But it is better than nothing. But we have also a Pine64 forum where we received a lot of support. But we do not use our Pinephone. It is not helpful for us personally to this date. And this altough we ininvested a lot of time in it:

This was a very negative experience which we won’t forget so easily. And what about the Pine64 forum supporters and the NextCloudForum supporters? Are these also paid promotional supporters?

We suppose so for different reasons, as in many other forums. Especially in forums like the Matlab forum or the Armbian forum where «forum cleaners» seem to take a lot of time to clean the forum from posts with issues who lower the sales rates.

But are these negative experiences missing in some fora? And is this bcause there are seller who support it which are eventually sponsored, clickbait and biased.

For us personally we miss negative feedback in many fora. We sometimes got the impression that there are people out there who invest a lot of time in controlling and cleaning forum entries to make to forum look great. But after some time these forum can be seen through and loose to be attractive.

The best hint that a product is attractive is still an active forum with many posts of users who share their experience. And not YouTube videos with a lot of views which look as if they where TV commercials.
