Best device to measure respiration rate for Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org

Last Updated on March 12, 2024 by pg@petergamma.org

It is the device which has been published here:

«Wearable radio-frequency sensing of respiratory rate, respiratory volume, and heart rate»

https://www.nature.com/articles/s41746-020-0307-6

  • air flow measurement
  • respiratory rate estimation
  • respiration belt

Similar to for gold standard for HR measurement which requires:

  • a 3 channel ECG device
  • the Mason Lyar placement
  • a trained person who checks every peak

a setup wich is based on combined signals from:

  • air flow measurement
  • respiratory rate estimation
  • respiration belt

developed by a bioinformatician like Rob ter Horst, and published in Nature. But Peter Gamma has not read the paper yet, and does not know if all of 3 devices are used to measure respiration. But concluding from the many devices which are offered to measure respiration rate, there is no winning device yet, or at leas no winning device which is affordable and can be build by ourselves.
