BCI Based Home Automation using User Controlled Blinks

Last Updated on June 24, 2021 by pg@petergamma.org

Arnaud Delorme, Phd. compares brain waves with the Muse Headband, the Mind Monitor app and EEGLAB when eyes are open vs when eyes are closed:

and the Departamento de Informática y Ciencias de la Computación, Escuela Politécnica Nacional,Quito, Ecuador

and the

Smart Lab, Escuela Politécnica Nacional, Quito, Ecuador

controls the whole home with OpenBCI, MQTT and

the blink of an eye:

and you can see your brainwaves on every device in your home which supports MQTT.

The authors of the paper did not use the OpenBCI WIFI shield with MQTT, but the acquired data is sent to a Single Board Computer (SBC) called ODROID XU-4 which is responsible of the feature extraction and feature translation processes. SBC also has the function of publishing the result of the feature extraction/translation process to an MQTT server which allocates the statesof the IoT devices controlled by the user, i.e., a light bulb and a television in the present implementation.
