Apple Watches Where the Most Accurate Devices for Heart Rate Tracking & Sleep Stage Tracking in Rob ter Horsts Tests

Last Updated on September 13, 2022 by pg@petergamma.org

Rob tested an Apple watch 7 (beta release of watch OS 9 ?), but Rob ter Horst, PhD. Thinks that older and newer Apple which give more or less the same results

Out of all devices Rob tested, the Apple watch showed the best performance.in heart rate tracking and sleep stage tracking. Rob compared an Apple watch 7 to a Dreem 2 device, which was tested before against a professional Polysomagraphy device in a scientific study:

  • The Dreem 2 had roughly an accuracy of 80 to 85 percent compared to a professional Polysomagraphy device
  • The Apple watch had roughly an an accuracy of 80 percent compared to a Dreem 2 headband

It is highly desirable, that Rob, as anounced, also tests Apples watches against a professional Polysomagraphy device, to have data compared to the most accurate reference device.
