Did the ratio of price to quality of low-cost high-quality physiological sensor devices increase in recent years?

The trend of the world is that the ratio of costs to quality increases of most products. But how is this with low-cost high-quality physiological sensor devices? We experienced that a lot of effort has been done in recent years to promote such devices on YouTube as well as to publish papers. But where thes not paid promotional videos as well as paid promotional papers in one way or the other?

If we look at this scientific study of Peter Gamma by the MRIS:

and especially at the case of the Dreem 2 headband, he comes to this hypothesis. If we look at this paper about the Dreem 2 headband:

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2352721823002942

We can see where the authors come from:

  • Department of Neurological Sciences, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, Illinois, USA
  • Department of Statistics, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA
  • Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, USA
  • Department of Neurology, University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas, USA
  • College of Nursing, Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida, USA
  • Department of Neurology, Boston University School of Medicine, Boston, Massachusetts, USA

It says in the paper:

This study was supported by Dreem sas

  • PJA and MEB are employees of Dreem, Inc.
  • and VT, ABH, AG, MH, ED and HJ are employees of Dreem sas

Can therefore this paper be declared as paid promotional paper? We suppose it increased the value of Dreem 2 from 500 USD to 1400 USD until Dreem went bancrupt and has been taken over by another company.

Are there any of the devices we reviewed in our journal which do not do stock market speculations? The risk is lower with devices which are build from single electronics components and InfluxD:

Rob ter Horst seem to have built up a house of cards with scientific tests about 100 smartwatches. Eventually together with marketing agencies who tested those before him and also made a big effort to find the best way to promote those. But the papers which confirms Rob ter Horsts findings are missing.

And does not the house of of cards which has been built by Rob ter Horst eventually in association with marketing agencies collapes as fast as it has been built up? The quality of the tests increases, this is the trend of the world. But does not the effort also increase which has been done to manibulate us?

Where for instance can we find a single low-cost high-quality smartwatch which scientists can use to write scientific papers with it? We did not find a single device among Rob ter Horsts 100 smartwatches which we could recommend for this purpose.

So is Rob ter Host a a flash in the pan?

We suppose so. But there are also other reviewers around and paper authors, and these are those wich do not have a conflict of interest as we are:

And we do not work for Dreem inc. and Dreem sas either. Here are the facilities we work in:

The dream of the Meditation Research Institute Switzerland (MRIS) is not to review the Dreem 2 headband and do stock market speculations with it until the device is dead.

Our dream is the one of Micheal Jackson to heal the world:

And the dream of John Lennon:

which says:

«You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one»

And we hope that you join us, wether you are a YouTuber, a paper writer, or an indpendent consultant. And the world will be as one.

  • PS: we not share the whole dream of John Lennon since it is an atheistic dream.
