During Corona we evaluated the Pinephone, the Raspberry P4 and where waiting for the Raspberry Pi 5 to come. We bought a Pinephone which we do not use. And and the Raspberry Pi 4 which was sold on eBay for 200 USD during Corona was to expensive for us personally. We thought as Rob Braxman the Pi 4 is not worth this prize.
Then we bought a Raspberry Pi 3 for a reasonable prize on Ricardo Switzerland. We are now evaluating this Raspberry Pi 3 for NextCloudPi:
And we suppose this Raspberry Pi 3 will be the first of the devices we evaluated which we will use every day. And according to our own little experience it is better not to choose the latest devices of thes manufacturers which are promoted on YouTube, but those who where also available in a crisis such as Corona for a reasonable prize. And that was the Raspberrry 3.
Corona is now over, and the Raspberry Pi 4 is available again for a reasonable prize. And if we choose the Raspberry Pi 4 for our projects we suppose that this device has a lower risk to become short again during a next crisis as compared to Raspberry Pi 5. And the knowledge about older devices, the advantages but also the issues, is often better than the knowledge about the latest devices.
