In 2024 Richard Davidson published a paper in PNAS about olympic level meditators:

Here, this paper is summarized by Daniel Goleman:
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche did a full-time meditation training for for 13 years in solitary retreat, until he wanted to stay there for the rest of his life:
Does this not mean the same as being enlightened, whatever this word may mean? Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche`s reincarnation Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche is now over 30 years old. We suppose he practiced meditation as much as Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. Is he not enlightened as well, in that sense Sadhguru uses the word enlightened?
Richard Davidson published a paper ins PNAS in 2004 about the long-term effect of meditation on the brain. But why was the paper not published in Nature? And why where the brain waves of Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche’s not tracked during the last 13 or so years by fMRI? We suppose that Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche is enlightened by now, too. Would we then not have fMRI brain scan data from once subject which which are suitable to publish a paper in Nature? The other 16 required meditators could then be tracked later on until they got enlightened, so that we finally couls submit our paper to Nature.
And whould we then not have finally as a consequence a meditation research which is sustainable, with meditation research institutes around the world, as for instance in Madison USA, in Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in India, and in Zurich Switzerland? But not with 100 people working there, but with individual researchers around the world, And would we not have the scientific basis, that mental health can be trained, so that it can be used for clinical applications? And eventually also receive a Nobel Prize in Medicine for it?
But Dilgo Khyentse Yangsi Rinpoche does not seem to need this scientific data. There are already many centers around the world which where established by Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche’s heart sons. There we can learn how to get a healthy mind and a healthy brain, but unfortunately not yet on a scientific basis validated in a clinical study, so that also Swiss medical doctors who cannot cure the mental diseases of their patients can send them there. And also the medical doctors of all other countries around the world with the same problem.
