With the Gemini PDA the the Palmtop devices returned in 2018:
The Pinephone with it’s keyboard -does it not look great?
Why is the Pinephone with keyboard not the new Palmtop? Why do Palmtop enthousiats hardy use the Pinephone in 2024? The problem is software support:
- if we look at this software comparison table:
- We can see that the Pinephone currenty cannot compete with Office applications which are available on Android phones and Raspberry Pi SBCs.
- Furthermore application installation is tricky on the Pinephone, as the installation of LibreOffice has shown.
- Devices such as the Raspberry Pi or if mobility is not your priority, the Compute Model 4 can run Raspberry Pi OS.
- The Raspberry Pi OS is an operating system which has been developed over the last 10 years. a time in which many issues have been resolved.
- And which Pinephone distro can compete with that?
- And which Pinephone distro has a little issues as Raspberry Pi OS.
Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org prefers devices based on Raspberry Pi OS which offers full international language support over the Pinephone with postmarketOS which offers only support for English and Czech.
