Since several years we were looking for an easy way to get sensor data from a Garmin watch into a database for data analysis, unfortunately without success. Now, we found the Apple Health Auto Export app by Lybron Sobers which can sync data from Apple Health to Home Assistant, from where it can be exported to InfluxDB. Why is this so much easier to do this with an Apple watch than with a Garmin watch?
- Garmin produces devices for mobile navigation, GPS satellite communication, smartwatches and multisport watches. Garmin registered the name “Forerunner” with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in August 2001 and released the first watch in 2003.
- Apple is a Software developer and a technology company that develops and sells computers, smartphones and consumer electronics as well as operating systems and application software. The Apple Watch was released in April 2015, and quickly became the best-selling wearable device.

Apple and Garmin are very different companies. The Apple watch is a much newer device than the Garmin watch. We suppose that these facts are the explanation for this phenomenon.
