During his PhD, Paul van Gent decided this, according to this source:
Did Paul van Gent open source HeartPy, because he did see, that PPG devices will never be as accurate as 3 lead ECG gold standard fro HRM measurement devices?
We do not know. But if this is true, Rob ter Horst can test optical sports watches as much as he can, they will never reach the accuracy of 3 lead ECG devices. And additionally, Rob ter Horst, and the people who believe in his scientific tests will never recognize this, since Rob ter Horst always tests with two Polar H10 chest strap as a reference, where he never will be able to recognize this.
This is a big problem. If Rob ter Horst does not change anything, people who believe in his tests will sooner or later feel cheated about Rob ter Horst. Rob seems not to have studied the literature concerning this topic. Most of the information about this can be found in this journal.
Rob shows only plots and some numbers. His plots are strongly boosted. From these plots we cannot judge how close Apple watches are to the Polar H10 chest strap. These graphs are not satisfying scienitifc data for scientists. They need numerical and statistical data published in a high quality data to be able to judge over Apple watches their accuracy. Dr Milind Desai from Cleveland Clinic has done this already. And eventually has already pre-tests at the level of Rob, but did not publish any papers. Is it because it was not worth it form him? We are convinced about it. Dr. Milind Desai has the money and the people to do this. But he didn t.
