Which keyboard to choose for SBCs – usb or Bluetooth?

Last Updated on May 17, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

For SBCs as the Radxa zero, the Mango Pi Pro, the Mango Pi quatt, the Orange Pi 5, and the LattePanda V1, the Alpha or Delta running Linux?

There are reviewers which claim that Bluetooth keyboards work or a Rii mini keyboard work with the Orange Pi 5. But no one could convince us that this works, since no one offered a proof that it works (see the posts about this topic in our journal).

One user was able to pair an Bluetooth mouse to the Orange Pi 5b, but failed to pair a Bluetooth keyboard. This user report can be found in the Armbian forum.

We are locked out of the Armbian forum and we do not know the reason. We suggest users making the same experience as we to choose Ubuntu instead of Armbian for the Orange P5.

For users looking for a small keyboard for the Orange Pi 5, we suggest to follow to approach of the programmer Roberto Alsina who has chosen as small usb keyboard for the Radxa zero instead of a Bluetooth keyboard:

We do not know of anybody who showed us a proof of function for Bluetooth keyboards for the Radxa zero and the Orange Pi 5.
