What we miss on the Orange Pi 5 Plus to be a real Raspberry Pi competitor

1. A recommendation for a Bluetooth and Wifi module (module or usb dongle) which works out of the box

  • We did some pre-work here:
  • As well as an installation instruction and a proof of function for the recommended modules.

2. A proof of function of a mobile wireless mouse

  • as for instance this one:

http://www.orangepi.org/html/hardWare/otherAccessories/details/Orange-Pi-800-Wireless-Mouse.html

  • this mouse is listed in the manual of the OP5 plus, and should work. But we miss a proof of function for the OP5.

3. A proof of function of a mobile wireless keyboard

  • as for instance this one:
  • we did some pre-work also here.
  • Wireless mice and keyboards work with Pi’s out of the box and is not a problem. But with OP5 we never know which module or dongle to choose with which OS.

4. Translate biblioman09 instruction from Spanish to English to make it more popular

  • It is sufficient to start ifrom min 17, since what is shown before that been shown previously.

5. Use armbian instead of Ubuntu if possible

  • because this is the only community for the Orange Pi 5 Plus we know which has a forum which is alife & kicking.

6. Make a proof of function in English of the following application biblioman09 demonstrated in his video which run on the OP5:

  • Libre Office
  • Audacity
  • Balena Etcher
  • Gparted
  • Okular pdf viewer
  • Thunderbird
  • Chromium web brower
  • Kodi home theater software
  • YouTube video playback

7. Are these applications pre-installed in Ubuntu for the OP5 Plus?

  • but not in armbian?
  • If so it is not better to choose Ubuntu for beginners?
  • And which version of Ubuntu should we choose for the OP5 Plusb which was installed by biblioman09 in the above video, or the optimised Ubuntu for Orange Pi 5? What are the differences?

8. Is it possible to install new applications in armbian or Ubuntu on the OP5?

  • If so, demonstrate some examples.

9. What are the pros and cons of choosing Ubuntu or armbian on the OP5?

  • make a comparison table.
  • We mentioned one argument to choose armbian and that is an active community.
  • List other arguments and compare those.

9. Install the the application Christopher Barnatt from ExplainingComputers has installed in the following video on the Pi 4 on your OP5 Plus:

8. Make an OP5+ week and test if it works for a desktop PC replacement

  • Christopher Barnatt used the Pi 5 for a week as his only computer.
  • Do the same with the OP5+.

The Raspberry Pi foundation claims that the Pi 4 can be used as a low-end desktop PC. Show that the OP5+ is a high-end desktop PC as compared to the Pi 4. If you are successful, we have a real Raspberry Pi competitor which is more powerful than the Pi 4. We invite YouTube video makers, XDA Developers and all other friends of the OP5+ to accept this challenge to compete with the Pi 4.
