In Switzerland, Nicholas of Flüe meditated and led an intense prayer life in solitary retreat in Flüely Ranft for 20 years. 500 years after his death, he was canonized for what he did in his life. He helped for instance to prevent war between the Swiss cantons.
Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche has meditated for 20 years in solitary retreat in Bhutan, and became the main Guru, the main teacher who brought His Holiness the Dalai Lama the 14. from darkness to light.
In 1989, The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to The 14th Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso) “for advocating peaceful solutions based upon tolerance and mutual respect in order to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of his people”.
