Many years ago, Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org
thought about replacing his desktop PC with a Raspberry Pi 5 running Ubuntu. These times are gone. But what are Peter s alternatives to the Raspberry Pi 5 & the Raspberry Pi zero 2 w, which would be suitable for his projects? After the corona crisis our trust in Raspberry Pi is gone. And what happened then can happen again since Raspberry Pi is on the stocks. The alternatives for Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org are:
the Orange Pi 5 with armbian
and the Orange Pi zero 2 w with armbian
These SBCs seem currently not be used very often. Armbian with the armbian forum which is supported seems to be an alternative to the Pi s and the Raspberry Pi forum. Furthermore armbian which is a reduced OS for SBCs seems to make sense.
Over the last 10 years, we had Raspberry Pi s in all variants. Cases for the Pi s in all forms and colors. But is all of this really necessary? If Raspberry Pi inc. would be in Switzerland, we suppose the Swiss would have decided to let go of the Raspberry Pi s for the private users, and to concentrate themselves only for industry users.
And Peter will not make a special contract with Raspberry Pi for his projects. So he will change as soon as possible to single board computers for instance from Orange, from which he things they are now mature enough at least to be evaluated for his projects.
