Universal Treadmill speed sensor based Raspberry Pi – a tool to separate wheat from chaff among treadmills?

There are a huge amount of treadmills on the market:

But which one to choose? With a universal Treadmill speed sensor based Raspberry Pi we have a sensor with which we can separate wheat from chaff among the treadmills:

From which one can we get data with which we can do something? But this sensor first needs to be developed further. It needs software which allows logging and calculating speed and distance from the treadmill to objectively study what we can do with those data.
