This is the view of Petergamma.org, not only after watching this video which is as critical as Peter about the Pinephone:
After being attracted by the Pinephone, I came to the conclusion that it is kind of a failure in concept for me personally. We have the Raspberry Pi s with the Raspberry Pi OS which have been developed over a decade. And now Pine64 came with the Pinephone. But do they not look like some kind of hobbists compared to what Raspberry Pi did as a global leader for SBCs? I mean also as a global leader in not being able to deliver SBC during Corona crisis. So if I choose a Pi, I will not choose the latest Pi such as the Pi 5.
For us personally the Raspberry Pi zero 2 w is much more suitable for developments than the Pinephone. Soft- and hardware development is much more ahead to the Pinephone due to it s longer period of the development. Raspberry Pi zero 2 w with DietPi is the platform we would choose if we had to start a new project today.
And I hope the Raspberry Pi zero 2 w will be have more RAM as soon as possible, so that we do not have to be on a diet with DietPi, but can choose a users friendly OS such as Raspberry Pi OS with Leepspsvdeo KDE Plasma build 4 which currently does not run on the zero 2 w due to it s limit of 512 MB Ram.
But Peter is also positive about the Orange Pi 5 which never had any issues with availability, although this SBC is bit large for our projects. But if you can choose between a Pi 5 and a OP5, is it not safer to choose an OP5, since Raspberry Pi is on the stocks? And the Pi 5 could eventually be soon an object for stock market speculation and scalping.
