The AD8232 ECG module which is shown in the following picture is a single lead ECG device with 3 electrodes:
But for cardiologists 3 lead ECG devices are gold standard for HR measurement as mentioned in this paper:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6732081/
- 3 lead ECG devices make 3 independent ECG recordings which can be analysed separately from each other.
An example for a 3 lead ECG device is the iWorx TA 220
In the following video at 4:23 we can see that the iWorx TA220 has 3 separate channels for ECG:
The following picture shows how these 3 channels are connected to the ECG cables and electrodes.
- We have 5 electrodes with 5 cables and 3 seperate ECG channels.
- The green electrode is the ground electrode.
These 3 independent ECG recordings can be analysed in the iWorx ECG toolbox for further calculations, for instance we can calculate the average of these 3 recordings. The TA 220 with 3 ECG channels and an ECG toolbox offers much more options than consumer grade heart rate monitors to analyse heart rate data, and also more accuracy for sporting activities with weak body movements.
