We observed some stock market speculations with for instance the Orange Pi5 single board computer on Aliexpress. First, we heared from TechHut that this device is an affordable alternative to the Rapberri Pi4. But soon, prices for this devices increased, and seemed to be adapted to other single board computers. We observed this also with other products on Aliexpress.
At the core of OpenBCI is the ADS1299 chip which is widely used for EEG. We can see here 3 offers on Aliexpress for this chip, and the prices for this chip seem to be random:
But is there behind these random prices a business software who does marketing studies for stock market speculations? We observed these kind of pricing also on ebay.
This chip is exensive, and it is the most expensive part of OpenBCI modules. Is it so, that products which are not really hot sellers like EEG devices, causes amateur sellers to start to speculate with those components how much money can be made out of it?
Since several years we observed prices for EEG devices, and ask ourselves, are these devices attractive for customers? Not really for us personally. But there seem to be a lot of sellers who try to do stock market speculations with those.
The ADS1299 is from Texas Instruments and we do not know of any clones of this chip yet. Is this because it is not interesting for cloners? Is there a market monopol of Texas Instruments for this EEG chip? If so, market monopoles are eventually interesting for Texas Instruments, but is this intersting for costumers?
For single component EEG chips we have chips from several chip manufacturers. Are not some of them clones? If costs for ADS1299 chips are scattered and if this chip is used to do stock market speculations from people wo take advantage of a market monopol, it becomes more interesting for EEG users to build new devices from single EEG components and InfluxDB than to use the ADS1299 chip from Texas Instruments.
