We found on Aliexpress offers for OpenBCI cable modules starting from 230 USD. 16 channel versions can be found for around 550 USD, Ultracortex Mark alternatives can be found for 230 USD, an updated WIFI shield can be found for 160 USD.
We would not be surprised if people like these guys here, which show a picture on which they seem to work on a long-term and practical application which uses low-cost high-high quality EEG devices, produce these devices for themselves and sell them on Aliexpress as well.

An Ultra Cortex Mark aternative is worn by these guys on the picture, which is sold for 230 USD on Aliexpress. It is the EEG cap the guys wear who work on the computer, and it is probably also the basis of the cap they use with the animal. The animal wears an EEG cap which is additionally fixed by a plastic cap.
A speculation what they to is the effect of studying the effect on tranquilizers on the alpha waves on animals. Such drugs need to be tested, and need requires a drug approval. Krisztián Hofstädters has shown a demo on YouTube where he studies the effect of listening to music on alpha wave in the brain. His demo is a proof, that this device can be used for this purpose. If it is used for studying the effect of listening to music, it can also be used to study the effect of drugs on alpha waves. For people which do not have a lot of money for research, this could eventually be the most low-cost high-quality EEG setup to do this job.
The EEG cap with the monkey has 9 channels, the OpenBCI module which is attached has 8 channels. The EEG cap which is shown has 16 channels. Up to 16 channels, there are many EEG products available on Aliexpress, which seem to be optimized for low-cost high quality.
One problem we have is that we cannot find store which sells an updated, denoised, power improved WIFI shield, which has good ratings. The most attractive option is for us to repair a WIFI shield with issues by soldering and repair it according to instructions we found in the web.
This is eventually also the calculation of the sellers, that it is not worth for them to open up a new store with an updated, denoised and power improved WIFI shield in a new store. But all the same, we are interested in such a device on the long-term.
