- This is not a joke.
- According to the Dalai Lama, another way is to vizualize an object, a Buddha figure, Jesus Christ, the Temple of Mekka for Muslims, or God in the form of light.
- This is according to the Dalai Lama the 14th the practice of Shamatha, which is common in all antient traditions.
- The Dalai Lama adviced in other teachings not to retreat completely for practicing mediation, unless we are completely convinced that we should to this.
- One of the main Gurus (or teachers, of the Dalai Lama) was Dilgo Khyentse Rinpoche. He spent 13 years, from the age of fifteen until he was twenty-eight, meditating in solidary retreat, until he wanted to stay in solitary retreat for the rest of his life:
- The number of 13 years of complete retreat to come to this point is impressive, and fits with figures whe heard from other spiritual traditions. How long does it take to become enlightened? The word enlightened is used differently in different spiritual traditions. So, in other words, how long does it take, until someone has the ability to gain happiness from within independently of the outer world? Or in scientific words, how long does it take, until someone has the ability to incrase the Gamma wave acitivity on the left prefrontal cortex independently from the outer world?
- For Dilgo Kihenze Rhinpoche, it was 13 years:
- In Zen Buddhism, we heard the number of 10 years (or 20 years if we try hard, according to a joke, source: Geo Magazine about Meditation, date?).
- from India, we heard the number of 12 years, twelfe years of hardship in India (Source: “How Do I Know if I am Enlightened? – Sadhguru on YouTube, 2013”).
- These numbers are impressive. It seems, that if someone wants to reach this ability, the
- time to reach this is similar in these three examples. And if this is done in one peace, or if this is done distributed over a lifetime, eventually does not matter.
