Say goodbye to Raspberry Pi?

Last Updated on September 8, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

To wait another year for the Raspberry Pi 5? This reminds us to the situation with the OpenBCI WIFI shield:

Again we are hearing basically bad news from Raspberry:

And that is that we should wait another year for the Raspberry Pi 5. This reminds us to the situation with PiEEG.

An interesting component for us personally. But it will be launched so late that we suppose that we will have an alternative until then. The same with a Raspberry Pi zero W 2 with more RAM, so that it can be used for instance with leepspvideos KDE plasma part 4.

These negative experiences with Raspberry Pi makes us to look for alternatives to the Pi as soon as possible.

For instance an Orange Pi 5:

or Mango Pi MQ quad:

The MQ quad software is in early stage of developement, and for us us personally eventually difficult to use:

Is the potential release date of the Pi 5 controlled by a marketing software to keep the costs for the Pis as low as possible? To make them affordable alos for people in poor countries?

Raspberry Pi eventually has other interests than we have

The Raspberry Pi Foundation is a charity. It was founded to promote the study of computer science. And Raspberry Pi Ltd, is a commercial subsidiary that develops Raspberry Pi computers and other hardware. The foundation’s charitable activities are funded through a combination of Gift Aid from the profits of Raspberry Pi Ltd, contracts for the delivery of educational services e.g. professional development for teachers, and donations from individuals, foundations, and other organisations.

We experienced that other people have similar problems as we have, for instance Chinese developers with www.OpenBCI.com, and suddenly we found what we where looking for from those. And direct import from China is our preferred choice.

We do not know if we start a research project with Ajahn Amaro sooner or later who has no money since 1979, and we therefore are looking for a cheap single board computer. But it has not to be the cheapest.

We will observe especially the Orange Pi5 and the MangoPi Quad and as soon as we find that they are suitable for our application, or a similar a product,we will eventually say goodbye to Raspberry Pi, because of these negative experiences. Raspberry Pi is not the only company who had problems because of Corona, but there is a big story about it from Raspberry Pi, and we will choose other products than those from Raspberry Pi as soon as possible, if there is a good alternative available.
