As soon as Rob ter Horst receives a smartwatch in exchange for a review, should he not label the video as a paid promotional video and inform us about this?
In the following video rob labels it at the frontpage as «not clickbait, not sponsored, unbiased data»:
But what is about the other 99 smartwatches he tested where he did not declaire his conflict of interest? Is Rob ter Horst a paid promotional video maker or scientist on his YouTube channel?
A second point we critizise Rob for is that we know only of one single scientic paper Rob reviewed on his channels and that is the following:
Rob tested 100 smartwatches and reviews a single paper and keeps silent about for instance the following papers:
These papers give a completely different perspective than that the Polar H10 chest strap has the «best heart rate with 99.6» Selecting only one paper and keep silent about other important papers? Which scientists do this? Science is the the careful study of the structure and behaviour of the physical world, especially by watching, measuring, and doing experiments, and the development of theories to describe the results of these activities.
We critizise Rob for not reviewing carefully and completely the scientific literature about the topics he reviews and tests on YouTube and we are asking therefore the question: is Rob ter Horst a paid promotional video maker or scientist on his YouTube channel? Is what he does not more a behaviour which we would expect from a paid promotional video maker rather than from a scientist who does not have a conflict of interest?
