Python open-source software for respiratory rate estimation – the end of the Matlab Respiratory Rate Estimation Toolbox – or the complete end of respiratory rate estimation?

  • Before you study the Matlab Respiratory Rate Estimation Toolbox and how it can run on Octave:
  • We invite you to first study the Python open-source software for respiratory rate estimation:
  • it is based on Python
  • it is based on a recent Nature Nature scientific report which was published in 2024
  • What is a bit suprising is altough Peter H. Charlton wrote a whole PhD. thesis about respiratory rate estimation, for instance iWorx does not seem to use respiratory rate estimation with their devices at all.
  • iWorx uses spirometers
  • Respiration Monitor Nasal Cannula with the IX-TA-220
  • And iworx uses also spirometer in combination with bikes:

  • What is suprising is that altough we are interested in respiration rate measurements for many years we do not know of manufacturers who use it exept for Garmin for instance in the Fenix 6.
