- We where today able to select a local folder in the NextCloudPi Android app
Issues with Softmaker Office
- We have chosen the download folder since it is the only folder where Softmaker Office allows to store files for reasons we do not know.
- The softmaker Office Android app was about 10 USD, but now it is free. For instance we do not know if this is an issue of Softmaker that we cannot choose the folder
- But still Softmaker Office on Android is our preferred choice. It has on Android what we would expect from LibreOffice on the Pinephone, and that it is touchable and adapted to the phone screen.
- And we suppose it is the full desktop app which has been adapted by Softmaker to the Android phone screen.
Choosing a remote folder on NextCloudPi from the Android app
- Then we where able to create a remote folder on NextCloudPi which is running on our Pi.
- But the user interface reminds us of user interfaces of the computational lab of the FIT Zurich and is not very user friendly.
- Here we failed in our last installation, we had to do the upload manually.
- This time we where lucky.
Problems to login into the NextCloudPi app, yesterday we coud not login, today it worked
- Today we where able to login to our NextCloud Pi over the NextCloudPi Android app
- Yesterday the app refused access to it since we already have an account there.
- But today the app treated us more friendly and allowed access to NextCloudPi.
- This is enough for today
Summary of our experience on saturday in the third week
- All which need to get it to work is here
- But we havnen t got yet it got to work
- And if we had a previous installation from which it is difficult or not possible to de install the old installation.
- For instance on the Windows NextCloud PC app after a re installation the old settings are still there and we do not know how to remove it
- This makes a new installation difficult.
- For a reliable setup which works we eventually need to test the installation on several PCs, several Pi’s with NextCloud Pi and several preferentially new smartphones.
- We currently have only one Raspberry Pi 3, a Pocophone F1 and the second adapter which works now for charging and wired ethernet.
- But the 3 other smartphones did not work and we do not why. But we made the best experience with the smartphone Xiaomi Pocophone F1 which was never used before.
Open questions regarding YouTube video maker Apfelcast from Germany
In the YouTube videos of Apfelcast everything seems to be very straight forward and easy, also on the Raspberry Pi 5:
But our user experience is completely different. If we want to do something with NextCloudPi from which we do not know of an instructional video, it takes time to get it reliably to work, as our expample with the 3 weeks of installation attempts has shown, where we do not have a working device even after 3 weeks.
So is Apfelcast also someone who publishes paid promotional videos about NextCloudPi where everything works as in the advertisement on TV, and does he receive Pi 5’s from Raspberry Pi to incease the sales rate of a single board computer from which we do not know if it is a dying species?
