As this example shows, it is possible to export data from the Apple watch to Home Assistant, and from there to InfluxDB and Grafana.

- Additionally, the Stryd foot pod can be connected to the Apple watch.
- The distance values from the Stryd are shown in the Apple Health app
- Check if it is possible to export the Stryd distance values with the Apple health auto export app to Home Assistant.
- If it works we have accurate distance values from the Stryd foot pod which is known to be very accurate in Home Assistant. We have discussed this previously in our journal.
- We currently only have the distance values from the Stryd foot pod in the Apple Health app. But if we get access to this data, we can do calculations with it, which is not possible with other sports watch sensor platforms as for instance Garmin Connect.
In this example, we have a mult-sensor platform based on Home Assistant which looks similar to Garmin Connect which shows Apple watch data as well as Stryd foot pod distance in Home Assistant. But in contrast to Garmin Connect, we can access the sensor data for sensor processing for instance with the InfluxDB client for Python.
Adafruit Pyloton Open Source Bike Compter
- For those who want to access BLE sports sensor data, we suggest to use the Adafruit Pyloton Open Source Bike computer:
- In constrast to ANT+ sports sensors, BLE sport sensors require no licence fees to use those.
Balena Health
- Another option is the Balena Health Raspberry Pi. Is it based on Andreas Baders Rasbperry Pi ANT+? It uses BLE instead of ANT+. The Balena software rusn on a Raspberry Pi as well, and transmitts the heart rate. It eventually can be modified for for instance a foot pod. Balena additionslly offers an (experimental) Balena Home Assitant. Does “experimental” mean, that it does not work? Discuss it with Balena. But if it works, we eventually could connect the Balena health Raspberry Pi to the Balena Home Assistant to get our BLE sports sensors to Home Assistant, InfuxDB, Grafana.
