In contrast to Rob ter Horst we can find validation papers of Marco Altini for HRV4Training:

Rob ter Horst does not publish any papers about his studies with smartwatches.

Marco Altini has a PhD (cum laude) in Data Science and a MSc (cum laude) in Computer Science Engineering as well as another MSc (also cum laude) in Human Movement Sciences, with a specialization in High Performance Coaching:

Current work of Marco Altini:

«Currently, I am taking care of product development (strategy, iOS and Android app development, web platform development) and research (clinical studies, insights, new features development from user generated data and large scale data analysis) as well as producing and delivering educational material on the topic of HRV, stress and performance.

In 2020 I took also a role as Data Science Advisor at Oura, helping a great team developing meaningful insights from physiological data. In particular, I have worked with Oura on the development of the next generation sleep staging algorithm, which I have described in a paper»

But all the same the Meditation Research Institute Switzerland (MRIS) does not use the HRV4Training or the Oura for research projects.
