Issue: no touch support for the official Orange Pi touch screen display with Orange Pi 5 running Fedora

Last Updated on May 2, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

  • Is it not quiet straighforward to install Fedora on the Orange Pi 5?
  • The Raspberry Pi 4 offers touch control for the official Raspberry Pi 7 inch touch display.
  • A touch display for a desktop OS for the Orange Pi 5 is highly desirable.
  • And is it not better to choose the Orange Pi 5 for Fedora instead of the Raspberry Pi?
  • Orange offers an official Orange Pi touch screen display:

  • The Orange touch screen can also be bought on Aliexpress and ebay, but is listed there as touch screen for the Orange Pi 4.
  • Does it not works also for the Orange Pi 5?
  • In the description of Orange it is not available neither on Aliexpress or Amazon.
  • We discussed touch on the Orange Pi 5 before:
  • Touch is on the Raspberry Pi 4 only supported with the official 7 inch display:
  • The issue that touch did not work on Fedora with the Raspberry Pi was resolved:

  • But why not to choose a more powerful device for Fedora than the Raspberry Pi 4?
  • The Orange Pi 5 has enough power to solve this problem.
Fedora has chosen the official flat cable version for the support of touch. Is this the easiest way to support touch?

It is about time to have a powerful single board computer with a contemporary operating system and contemporary accessoires, such as a display with touch control.
