Is it worth to repair OpenBCI made in China modules? – state of the affairs in 2024

Last Updated on April 20, 2024 by pg@petergamma.org

We reviewed the issues of OpenBCI made in China in our journal:

https://petergamma.org/tag/openbci_made_in_china

Major issues we are know are:

  • (1) The issues of the OpenBCI WIFI shield.
  • (2 ) The connector between OpenBCI Cyton and the WIFI shield.

OpenBCI made in China published demonstrations of their products with functional tests of these modules on the product pages on Aliexpress & eBay. This suggests that they managed to get those to work properly, but do not offer these products to buy currently.

  • The functional demonstrations they showed where at a high quality.
  • They demonstrated, that they are able to develop almost anything on request.
  • But the updates of the issues seem only demos. They seem not to update what they sell on Aliexpress and eBay in a sustainable way.
  • One argument to buy these products would eventually be the price difference to products from www.openbci.com.
  • OpenBCI Cyton costs 1 000 USD sold from www.openbci.com
  • OpenBCI Cyton sold on eBay and Aliexpress starts from 230 USD for the cable version.
  • We do not now if this works with the Bluetooth dongle and the WIFI shield. We found no tests for this. Little is known about these OpenBCI modules.
  • But still it is a price difference of about 770 USD to the OpenBCI Cyton sold on www.openbci.com

And we suppose that the major difference to products which are sold on www.openbci.com is that these modules are not tested by the manufacturer, and are therefore cheaper.

  • So buyers have to test thoss by themselves. .
  • But these modules might eventually worth testing, if you are skilled enough.
  • And if they do not work properly, you can send those back.
  • The OpenBCI made in China product offers often stay not very long in a shop until they are replaced.
  • But some of these modules are sold by stores with good ratings, and we suppose these stores will give you a refund if your OpenBCI made in China module does not work properly.
  • But you have to test it immediately after you buy it, since there is only a limited time where you get a refund if it has issues.
  • Many seem to buy products from www.openbci.com which seem only interested on the short term.
  • And only view seem to be interested on the long term in physiological multi-sensor devices such us Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org.
  • For those who are interested on the long term in OpenBCI modules, it is eventually worth testing and repairing those, if you are looking for an afforable OpenBCI product.
  • And if you do not manage to repair those, you still can send those back.
  • The stores with good radings are most probably interested in having good ratings in the future as well and will give you a refund.
  • And there are instruction available how to repair the WIFI shield.
  • And the connector between the OpenBCI Cyton module and the WIFI shield which has reported to have issues in one case can eventually be replaced.
  • But this requires advanced hardware skills and knowledge about OpenBCI modules.

Information for product sellers who do stock market speculation and scalping with products mentioned by Peter Gamma on www.petergamma.org.

According to the little experience of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org, many of the products listed here are still full of issues which need to be resolved. If you do stock market speculation and sculping with those, you will loose Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org as a buyer of these products and as a reviewer. Is this not risky? Will you not loose a majority of your costumers as well?

And is it not so, that society in general does not accept stock market speculation and scalping with products as those which are listed here? And will you not be politically incapable of finding a majority of the voters if you do stock market speculation and sculping with these products?

And as a consequence will you not be condemned and punished by a political referendum soon? Especially if you do this to a Swiss, since are not majority of Swiss against stock market speculations and sculping with people on a budget? And people in Switzerland are known for a lot of political referendums, since we have direct democracy in this country.

And Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org will fight up to the European Court of Human Rights against people who do stock market speculation and sculping with the products which are mentioned on www.petergamma.org. And if they do not have yet the legal basis there to do so, he will fight for it.
