Is it possible to use a smartphone as a Raspberry Pi screen connected over a direct wired connection?

There are options to use a smartphone as a Pi screen with a HDMI to usb adapter:

But this is rather bulky. On the other hand it is possible to have a touch screen interface with screen over Rasbperry Pi connect, but untfortunately, this goes only over internet:

Techcraft ist one of the most advanced YouTubers in this area. He connects his iPad to a Raspberry PI over usb-c:

There are some interesting commments below the video:

  • Single cable solution also works on the Pi zero 2, just use the USB-OTG port on the Pi.
  • Yes you need a different cable (USB-C to µUSB).
  • I use this setup for my sensors to get some enviromental data (temperature, humidity, air flow, etc).

  • This works so far on my Samsung galaxy tab s6 lite
  • ,and the power from the raspberry pi is enough to keep it charging.

  • Tried using your config with my Raspberry Pi 5 but I can’t seem to get it to work.
  • The ethernet connection wouldn’t show up on my 2018 ipad pro.

You can find the ip-adress of your Pi with the Termux app.

At 9:51 in the video it says:

  • it is possible to login from your Android phone tot the Pi over SSH.
  • works most probably also with P3 and P2 as well as on non-Pi SBCs.
