The OpenBCI shop offers only OpenBCI modules with Bluetooth connectivity over the included usb Bluetooth dongle. OpenBCI modules which are sold on eBay and Aliexpress offer also cable and Bluetooth transmission. If you want to discuss about OpenBCI modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress, we invite you to discuss this topic not in the www.openbci.com forum, since www.openbci.com does not support these thirt party modules. We invite you to discuss this topic for instance in the comments of www.petergamma.org.

The view of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org:

If you need OpenBCI products which work out of the box, buy products from www.openbci.com. Little is known about OpenBCI modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress. They are much cheaper. In theory,

  • cable and
  • WIFI transmission sould work with those.

These connection types have also been tested in the www.openbci.com forum. But especially the OpenBCI modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress are little investigated. You can find what is known about those on www.petergamma.org.

  • We think it is worth to more test the OpenBCI modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress, to find out more about their issues.
  • We think it is also worth to more test cable and wired transmission of these modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress.

Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org is a physiologist, and not a soft- and hardware developer. As far as Peter knows, cable and WIFI transmission are theoretically possible, but not established. There seems to be no break trough for these transmission types for OpenBCI modules.

  • Skilled persons have tested it in the www.openbci.com forum, but seem to have no followers.

But we think it is worth to test these options more and publish the issues of these products somewhere, and also to see if these issues can be resolved.

This has eventually been done already. And we personally think if you are not a hobbyist who loves doing these kind of things, it is better to test new solutions based on InfluxDB

than test OpenBCI modules sold on eBay and Aliexpress from which nobody could convince us that the work properly.
