If we don t want to use Google Drive for privacy reasons we can use NextCloudPi & other considerations for people who are looking for more privacy on our mobile devices

I found a solution with a Google Pixel phone and an usb-c adapter, where I could restore the option to exchange files from a PC to the smartphone via SD card:

The adapter works surprisingly good, and offers also an Ethernet plug which work fine.

I tested also NextCloudPi with a Raspberry Pi 4:

Which is also a great solution. Since Windows 11 i decided to switch from Windows to Ubuntu, because I did not wanted to buy new hardware espcially for Windows 11. But unfortunately, not all the software I need is available on Ubuntu. For instance not all features of my Canon printer are available on Ubuntu. So I have to exchange data from

  • an Android phone
  • a Ubuntu PC
  • and a Windows 11 PC

With NextCloudPi this should work fine.

And with the usb-c adapter plugged into my Google phone:

I can also plug my Android phone via wired Ethernet connection to a router.

So there is no WiFi in this network required.

I expect that Google Inc will kill my solution with the Google Pixel 6 sooner or later:

And then I have to find another solution for cloud free data exchange to a smartphone or a single board computer. The devices from Bigtreetech would be great for this purpose:

But they seem not to be developed very well. So I failed to install Raspberry Pi OS on the Pi Pad 5 with a CM4. In principle a Raspberry Pi zero 2 w would do the job as well. LibreOffice can run on it, but is very slow.

As with the Pinephone, we could use Abiword and Gnumeric instead:

This would be a solution which could solve my privacy problem. But for the time being, I stay with my Google Pixel 6 Pro with Softmaker Office. This software is very well developed. I hope that sooner or later, the Raspberry Pi zero 2 gets a bit more ram and runs a bit faster, so that for instance Leepspsvideo KDE plasma build 4 runs on it, so that the SBC has a bit more user comfort. And hopefully also LibreOffice would then run faster.
