Does it make sense now to upgrade from a Raspberri Pi zero 2w with 512MB to a Mangopi MQ-Quad with 1 GB Ram which also has a faster cpu?

  • Learn Embedded Systems said in his review about the Mangopi MQ-Quad that in some the MQ quat is faster than the Raspberri Pi zero 2w and also more power efficient.
  • but bracka wrote in the mango pi forum:
  • “It doesn’t make much sense to upgrade from a Pi with 512MB and then suck up half a gig with X Windows and stuff I don’t need”

  • Unfortunately, we do not have yet an OS which is optimized to run on ARM based single board computers for the Mangopi MQ quat as for instance armbian.
  • but we have Debian and users in the mango pi forum reported they got it to work with no major issues.
  • There are two reasons to buy a Mangopi MQ-Quad instead of Raspberri Pi zero 2w

1) Availability

  • user complained about the availability of the Raspberri Pi zero 2w.
  • The Raspberri Pi zero 2w is currently available, but was short in the past.
  • will the device be unavailable again in the future?
  • from the example of the Raspberry Pi 4 we have learned that Raspberry Pi has also problem with the Raspberri Pi 4 and availability

2) Price

  • Mangopi MQ-Quad is more affordable than the Raspberri Pi zero 2w
