Raspberry Pi OS versus Pinephone Software releases
- The first realease of Raspberry Pi OS was on 2013-09-27 and is based on Debian version 7 (Wheezy).
- Currently we have a release of Raspberry Pi OS from 2023-10-10 which is based on Debian version 12 (Bookworm):

- There are 59 updates of the Raspberry Pi OS since 2013-09-27 if we counted those correctly.
- Is Raspberry Pi OS not an OS which is much more mature than the about 20 different PinePhone Software releases from postmarket OS to Fedora?

- And are the Pinephone distros updated as frequently as Raspberry Pi OS?
- Is the Rasbperry Pi generally not a device which is much more mature than the Pinephone?

- The first Raspberry Pi was released in 2012.

- Raspberry Pi first came into existence in 2006 at the University of Cambridge in the university’s computer laboratory.
- The computer scientists working on the project included Eben Upton who is now CEO of Raspberry Pi (Trading) Ltd.
- Eben Upton has a PhD in Computer Science of the University of Cambridge.
- We have 5 major Raspberry Pi models to this date.
- Supply chain issues hit the production of Raspberry Pi boards hard causing shortages that have lasted from 2021 to 2023.
Raspberry Pi 5
- The latest model Raspberry Pi 5 has been released but it is not yet on the shelves in Switzerland.
- Leepspvideo said on his YouTube channel that pretty much nothing currently works on the Raspberry Pi 5 compared to the Pi 4.
- If you want to be on the save site stay with the Raspberry Pi 4 with your developement until the Raspberrry Pi 6 is released. Who knows when the next chip shortage comes with the next Corona?
- We suppose that the Raspberry Pi 4 will be on stock on eBay also during the next chip shortage as the Raspberry Pi 3 was during the last Corona.
Pinephone developement, models and release date
- One of the developers of the Pinephone was Martijn Braam from the Netherlands who does computer stuff.
- Martijn Braam left PINE64 and communicates the reason for this on 2022-08-17 in his site:

- The first Pinphone was released on january the 2020.
- The second Pinephone (the Pro model) was released on February 2022.
- And we do not know if there will be a third Pinephone from Pine64.
