Christof Koch: How the brain works

Last Updated on February 23, 2023 by pg@petergamma.org

Some years ago, we have read an article from Christof Koch, if we remember correctly, it was in Nature about how the brain works. And also the Dalai Lama visited Christof Koch:

Or was it Christof Koch who visited the Dalai Lama? Whatever. Why do we want to know how the brain works? In what aspect of the brain are we interested in? We where interested in mental suffering and it s causes. But we personally learned more from the Dalai Lama about how the brain works, than from Christof Koch and Richard Davidson, regarding this topic. We learned from the Dalai Lama about what are the causes of mental suffering, and how we can find an end to mental suffering, but unfortunately this was not confirmed by scientific studies of Christof Koch and Richard Davidson. But all the same, the knowledge of the Buddhist was very helpful to us personally. May the next Nobel Prize winner confirm the findings in the Buddhist teaching, how to find an end to mental suffering. We do not urgently need another Nobel Prize winner, who confirms it. If the teachings we received are helpful for us personally, why do need another proof that it works? It would be highly desirable to have this proof, but we do not urgently need it.
