Can we work with the Orange Pi 5 as a powerful daily driver ?

  • According to the specs, the Orange Pi 5 should be very powerful and be capable of doing this.

RememberThisTech made a review about how to use it as a daily driver.

  • We are interested in the optimized Ubuntu 20.4 with Gnome deskop.
  • It has the most issues of the Orange Pi OS installations which we know:
  • It is shown at 21 in the video.

Issues which remain for us personally for the Orange Pi 5 to use it as a good daily driver

  • since we made negative experiences with YouTube videos in the past, we only believe that a feature work if it has been demonstrated.

Office

  • The reviewers says Office works good but does not show it’s function.
  • LibreOffice is preinstalled but the functioning of it is not shown.
  • Thunderbird is preinstalled but the functioning si not shown.

Bluetooth and Wifi

  • The optimized Ubuntu GITHUB project says it support Bluetooth and Wifi of the Orange Bluetooth and Wifi MVMe slot module, but we do not know if this already as been demonstrated somewhere.

SSD drive

  • for a good work experience, an SSD or an MVMe drive is helpful.
  • leepspvideo already has shown that a flash drive works for usb booting, but not an SSD:
  • Ace1000ks1975 has shown that is it possible to boot from a “x” 3.5 inch HDD:
  • both solutions are workarounds which should be documented.
  • Both solutions are not really satisfying solutions for the long-term user and are hopefully updated by another SSD usb boot solution.

Does the Rii (Upgrade) i4 Mini Bluetooth Keyboard with Touchpad, Blacklit Portable Wireless Keyboard with 2.4G USB Dongle for Smartphones, PC, Table work with the Orange Pi 5?

  • Chris Sherwood claims that it works:
  • But Chris does not show us demo which proofs this, and we do not know of another demo about this.
  • The Orange Pi 5 has no Bluetooth by default.
  • The Rii mini can be paired over Bluetooth, but does it work with the Orange Pi 5?
  • The Rii mini has also 2.4 Ghz wireless and dongle is included, but does this work with the Orange Pi 5?
