Meditation instructions of a uncontroversial spiritual teacher which can be used for scientific studies?

Osho was controversial among many spiritual teachers. He rejected all political and religious systems. But what for us personally is interesting that he was a «spiritual playboy» as he once called himself, who came to the topic meditation trough «spontaneous» meditative experiences, which he called «enlightenment».

One of the most interesting instructions from Osho for us personally are:

«Meditation Is a Very Simple Phenomenon»

And

Witnessing the breath meditation”

Both of these instructions are helpful for us personally. But what we generally miss are standardized and generally accepted meditation instructions which can be used as a basis for scientific studies. OSHO was rejected by Christians, and he had to leave the US because he was violating the US laws. And is it not better to choose teachings from a teacher which is not controversial among other spiritual traditions and states? Still these instructions where helpful for us personally. Are these not close to a Samatha meditation without an object, as well as a Samatha mediation with the object breath. These two examples are easy instructions from a self-experienced meditator.

An alternative to Osho’s teachings are the books of Matthieu Ricard, Buddhist monk with a PhD. in Cellular Genetics, «Happiness» and Meditation». The Dalai Lama the 14th asked Matthieu Ricard to write about secular meditation, but do not remember which books this refers to. And also the Dalai Lama offers teachings for believers and non-believers.
