Use Motion Artifact Free ECG Devices for Validation of Heart Rate Monitors (II)

part I:

In the following demo video about the Adinstruments Equivital:

https://www.adinstruments.com/partners/equivital

Adinstruments advertises that the Adinstruments Equivital has “Movement Artifact free ECG”. Therefore we suppose that the problems of the Movement Artifact of Adinstruments Equivital:

are solved, and the device can be used as reference device for sports sensor heart rate validation.

Adinstruments Equivital has only a warranty time of 3 month, as far as we know. Be aware of this fact before you buy this expensive device.

These two papers use ECG devices as reference devices:

  1. Accuracy of commercially available heart rate monitors in athletes: a prospective study

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6732081/

Reference device: Cardiac Science ECG device. (no motion artifact removal)

2. Validation of Polar OH1 optical heart rate sensor for moderate and high intensity physical activities

https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0217288

Reference device: g.Nautilus. According to Nautilus, g.NAUTILUS PRO has at least motion artifact-free EEG signals. We do not know wheather g.NAUTILUS PRO also supports motion artifact-free ECG signals:

We suppose, that the Adinstruments Equivital, the g.NAUTILUS PRO as well as high-quality ECG devices with HeartPy motion artifact removal belong to the most accurate heart rate monitoring devices on the market, and that these devices are more accurate than a Polar H10.

– There is no proof, that the Polar H10 has the “best heart rate”, as Rob ter Horst, PhD. claims on his youtube channel, which is 99.6 % correct, whatever that means. Rob ter Horst has no data which compares the Polar H10 to a motion artifact free high quality ECG device:

– There is no proof either, that the Polar H10 is a gold standard reference device, as claimed in this paper:

We suppose that:

1. Adinstruments Equivital

2. g.NAUTILUS PRO

3. a high-quality ECG devices with HeartPy motion artifact removal

are devices which are more suitable as standard reference devices for sports sensor valdiation than the Polar H10 chest strap.
