Imran Haque:”I decoded (most of) the protocol that the Peloton bike uses to communicate with its head unit tablet and built a device, the PeloMon, that takes that data during a ride, without interfering with the Peloton software, to broadcast it over Bluetooth LE to whatever devices you’d like — a watch, Zwift, Wahoo, whatever”:

Imran S. Haque answered my questions about the Pelomon on Twitter
Peter Gamma:
@ImranSHaque #pelomon Hi Imran, thank you for your great instruction »Pelomon» for reading out sensor data from the Adafruit Pyloton. I saw in your documentation, that it is possible with your instruction to read our sensor data from the Adafruit Pyloton to a PC.
I am looking for a device to read out sports sensor data to a PC and analyse them for a scientific paper. Is it allowed to read out sports sensor data from the Bluetooth low energy device Pelomon without a licence from the Bluetooth low energy code developers?
For ANT+ sensor devices for instance, an evaluation agreement is necessary for this purpose. Do you know how the legal situation is with your device?
Imran S. Haque:
As far as I know BLE is an open spec, so you should be able to do whatever you want. Note though that I’m not a lawyer.
Peter Gamma:
@ImranSHaque #pelomon The Adafruit Pyloton is based on the Adafruit Clue chip, which has an usb connector, which allows reading out of sensor data. Also the Pelomon allows reading out of sensor data from the Adafruit Pyloton. Is there an advantage to sniff out sensor data with the Pelomon, rather than reading out sensor data over usb from the Adafruit Pyloton?
Imran S. Haque:
Not familiar enough with the Pyloton or your application to say, sorry.
