Big issue of single board computers: price instability, arbitrary price increases & price uncertainty

  • We have evidence of a gamblings software to maximize profit from single board computers
  • We reviewed several SBC and where strongly irritated by the pricing politics of these devices.
  • starting with the LattePanda V1. We sah the LattePanda at a lower price than it currently is.
  • When we critizised the device, we observed that the price for the device was reduced for a view days.
  • It was labelled with precentage reduced, it was reduced by 10 USD. But after a view days, it was back at it’s original price.
  • We made a similar observation with the Orange Pi 5. The device started selling for about 65 USD on Aliexpress if we remember correctly, but then soon, the price for the device increased.
  • We critizised this, then shortly after that, we sah an offer on Aliexpress with reduced price, but only for a view day.
  • This let us conclude that SBC computer have a big issue, and that is price instability and price incertainty.
  • In the example for the Raspberry Pi zero w2, we can see that the price for the device was incrased 7x from it’s initial price to 105 USD where it currently is.
  • How do users know if this does not happen with other SBC? If we as reviewers for instance review a product, and as a consequence, the price for the product increases
  • This is the perfect way to make reviewers crazy and make them stop reviewing these devices.

Or is this eventually also part of the business plan which is controlled by a software which has no soul and no heart, and is short sighted? To get rid of reviewers to be able to sell the devices to the short sighted buyers?
