An empirical study of the MRIS which describes our experiences with usb-c & how it it made us suffer

Swiss YouTuber Andreas Spiess published a video which is 26 min long why usb-c sucks:

We can an add some more reasons. Our approach is an empirical one. We are trying to connect a smartphone over usb-c to a smartphone adapter with ethernet plug and charging port to our router and from there to a PC to use it with NextCloudPi. We tested two adapters which can do this with 4 smartphones with usb-c connector:

  • These where 3 Xiaomi Pocophone F1 smartphones and a Fairphone 3.
  • On adapter 1 the only thing that worked was to charge the Fairphone 3 and nothing else.
  • Then we tested adapter 2.
  • One Pocophone 1 worked for charging and wired ethernet. It was the phone which was completely new.
  • The Fairphone 3 worked as well for charging and wired ethernet.
  • So we could use Pocophone F1 with NextCloudPi to sync files from the smartphone over NextCloudPi to our PC and back.
  • This took us a week working every day a little bit on it:
  • We came to the conclusion to install everything fresh with a second setup and not change the first setup which already worked.
  • A problem with NextCloudPi is the folder structure which was not completely clear to us personally.
  • But when we wanted to use our Fairphone 3 which previously worked with adapter 2, only the wired ethernet connection worked but not charging.
  • Even a hard reset did not change anything.
  • Then we tested once more a second Pocophone F1, and this time it worked and we where lucky.
  • This second Pocophone F1 smartphone which did not work previously worked at our second test without changing anything.

If we would watch Andreas Spiess 26 min long usb-c video about usb–c we would eventually know the reasons for the issues we have with usb – c in our empirical study. But to watch a 26 min. video after a lot of frustration sucks at present moment as well, although we are happy about the usb-c video of Andreas Spiess and will watch it eventually later on if necessary, and we would like to thank Andreas for his great video.
