According to our tag cloud, OpenBCI is the hottest topic of th MRIS. This is not true. We have reviewed OpenBCI modules for a long time, but we did not test OpenBCI components at all. Our hottest topic in our tests was a Garmin Fenix 6 paired to a Polar OH1, which we tested to study the respiration rate.

The configuration of a Fenix 6 with a Polar OH1 is not an official configuration for respiration rate recommended by Garmin. And is is not a device which we can recommend for scientific studies about respiration rate either, since it is inaccurate.

We currently do not use EEG devices for practicing mediation at all, and we can do without EEG devices for this purpose. OpenBCI was one of our preferred devices to review, but we cannot say that it is our preferred device for EEG, ECG an PPG.

Robert Oostenveld who reviewed and used the OpenBCI Cyton had specific problems with it and saw others struggle with the same problems. Robert felt that he was spending more time trying to debug than doing EEG with OpenBCI Cyton, and moved on to other systems. These other systems where the OpenBCI Ganglion and Unicorn Black by gtec medical. According to Robert, The Unicorn Black is is overall cheaper than the OpenBCI Cyton (if Cyton is bought from www.openBCI.com ), and is more complete as a set, and is easier to use than OpenBCI Cyton.
