Pinetime

  • We were interested in open source watches since a longer period of time, but the Pinetime is not very powerful, has not many features, is not so easily modifiable.
  • We found the ESP32 Open Source Smart watch presented by How To Electronics from India very interesting. You can find it in our journal.
  • If you are looking for a open source sports watch with a professional support, the Pinetime has it.
  • But if we compare the Pinetime to a modern smartwaches as for instance the latest Apple watches, then according to our own little experience, they cannot be compared.
  • We miss an open source sports watch with more features, which can easily be modified.

AsteroidOS watches

  • Since we checked last time, there are one or two new model there.
  • If you are a computer scientist, these watches are certainly devices where you can find other computer scientists which are also interested in those.
  • But unfortunately, we could not find easy examples for AsteroidOS watches, as for instance use those as an open source sports watch.
  • Still, the support is professional, if we want to develop a professional sports watch, AsteroidOS is an option.
  • It would be helpful to have a community for AsteroidOS watches which is more user friendly. We miss for instance a support forum, instead of the options they offer.
  • But for us as physiologists to develop a physiological watch out of an AsteroidOS watch, we think it is possible, although we prefer devices which are easier to handle.
