– We made some tests with a Suunto foot pod, a Garmin Venu watch, the Android app a Training tracker, and the following Newgen Medicals treadmill:

– The treadmill runs calm, we can pracice walking meditation with it without disturbing our neighbours at lower speeds. The electronics are a bit limited, and allow only 30 min training, then the device stops
– We started some tests with walking mediation at 1 km/h, 2 km/h and 3 km/h. Only starting from 3 km/h, whe measured reasonable values with a Training Tracker and our Venu watch in Garmin Connect
– A very helpful feature was the alarm of the Venu watch, which vibrated, when the speed was below 90 steps per minute, a warning not to walk below 90 steps per minute
– If we walked below 90 steps per minute, the step rate in Garmin Connect was zero. We suppose that Garmin has a cut off here to avoid wrong measurements
– We did not test this yet, but it seems that Garmin has done this job before us and delivers us this helpful information
– if we want to be on the safe site, do not practice walking meditation below 90 steps per minute
– If we walked for one hour on the Newgen Medicals treadmill, a training tracker as well as the Venu watch showed less than 3 km distance when we where practicing walking meditation for one hour, if we remember right
– We where then at an athletics track to calibrate a Training tracker and the Venu watch. After we entered the calibration values to a Training tracker and the Venu watch, both a Training tracker as well as Venu watch show a slower speed than the Newgen Medicals treadmill
– We suppose that the Newgen Medicals treadmill board computer is inaccurate. We need to go once more to the athletics track to confirm our calibration. The Newgen Medicals treadmill board computer does not confirm it.
– But the warning not to walk at slower speeds than 90 steps per minute is very helpful. We eventually can do without a lot of further tests at lower speeds to confirm that readings become inaccurate at lower speeds.
The step rate of 90 steps per minute as lowest value seems not to be a fixed value. Sometimes we get also a warning at 96 or 98 steps per minute, that the step rate is to low.
