Stefan Meierhans was born in 1968 in Altstätten in the St. Gallen Rhine Valley. He studied law at the universities of Basel, Oslo, and Uppsala, and received a doctorate from the University of Basel in 1998. Stefan Meierhans subsequently worked at the Federal Office of Justice and, from 1998 to 2003, in the General Secretariat of the Federal Department of Justice and Police, on the staff of Federal Councilors Koller and Metzler-Arnold. Most recently, Stefan Meierhans worked in the private sector. He is a member of the Center Party. Stefan Meierhans is married and lives with his family in Bern.
