There is good news from the Orange Pi’s to use those as alternatives to Raspberry Pi’s for our projects

Last Updated on September 12, 2024 by pg@petergamma.org

Good news about the Orange Pi zero 2w. The following video of Platima Tinkers from Australia is promising:

A documentation of 331 pages is also something which is very helpful for developers. Platima Tinkers says he will use the Orange Pi zero 2w as a Raspberry Pi zero 2 w alternative since they always break and as a controller for the garden at least. It might have some issues, as can be seen in the video. But I think it is worth testing this and publishing these issues He has tested many SBCs on his YouTube channel. Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org has also written 549 posts about single board computers on his site, looking for devices which fit for his needs, and mainly as alternatives to the Pinephone and to Raspberry Pi’s:

After this evaluation only four SBCs remain interesting for our projects, and these are:

  • The Raspberry Pi 4 Raspberry Pi OS & Leepspvideo KDE Plasma built 4
  • The Raspberry Pi zero 2 w with DietPi
  • The Orange Pi 5 with Ubuntu or armbian
  • The Orange Pi zero 2 with Debian 6.1 & XFCE desktop or evenually armbian and the Orange Pi zero 3 with armbian

We will keep an eye on the Orange Pi zero 2 w as an alternative to the Raspberry Pi zero 2 w. The latest Raspberry Pi single board computers such as the Raspberry Pi 4 where unavailable during Corona for about 3 years. The Raspberry Pi zero 2 was was available used on eBay for around 120 USD during Corona, and the Raspberry Pi 4 was between 200 USD – 300 USD. Raspberry Pi’s are available again now, but also for brokers to trade on the stocks, which is bad news. We suppose this will have negative consequences for users. Since Corona and since Raspberry Pi’s are on the stocks our trust in Raspberry Pi is gone. Orange Pi’s are getting better since Corona, as you can see for instance in the example of the Orange Pi 5:

The Orange Pi 5 has also good support in the armbian forum, we suppose it is the best supported SBC of armbian to this date:

We found there a solution how to connect a wireless keyboard and a mouse to a Orange Pi 5:

https://forum.armbian.com/topic/30167-is-there-a-wireless-keyboard-which-works-with-the-orange-pi-5/#comment-171447

And it is also worth keeping an eye on armbian for the Orange Pi zero 2 w:

armbian is as Raspberry Pi OS based on Debian and started in 2022:

NextCloud will most probably be also available for the Orange Pi 5, which is good news, too:

As far as we know, the armbian community is mainly a community of developers. We do not know of any another communities for the Orange Pi’s which would be helpful for us personally. We had a look into the Orange Pi forum several times, but there where only view posts and a lot of spam.

We will not test or use the latest Raspberry Pi’s because they are on the stocks now, which is for us personally a risk which is too big to take after what we experienced with Raspberry Pi. We will use old and used Pi’s, and the alternatives we have discussed here.

Information for product sellers who do stock market speculation and scalping with products mentioned by Peter Gamma on www.petergamma.org

**************************************************************************************

**************************************************************************************

According to the little experience of Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org, many of the products listed here are still full of issues which need to be resolved. If you do stock market speculation and scalping with those, you will loose Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org as a buyer of these products and as a reviewer. Is this not risky? Will you not loose a majority of your costumers as well?

And is it not so, that society in general does not accept stock market speculation and scalping with products as those which are listed here? And will you not be politically incapable of finding a majority of the voters if you do stock market speculation and scalping with these products?

And as a consequence will you not be condemned and punished by a political referendum soon? Especially if you do this to a Swiss, since are not majority of Swiss against stock market speculations and scalping with people on a budget? And people in Switzerland are known for a lot of political referendums, since we have direct democracy in this country.

And Peter Gamma from www.petergamma.org will fight up to the European Court of Human Rights against people who do stock market speculation and scalping with the products which are mentioned on www.petergamma.org. And if they do not have yet the legal basis there to do so, he will fight for it.

What is a scalping?

Scalping is a trading strategy in which an investor buys and sells a single asset multiple times throughout the day. The goal of a scalper is to make a small profit over a large number of small trades, rather than a huge profit on each individual trade.

What is a scalper?

A scalper is someone who buys something and resells it at a price far above the initial cost. For instance some says: “He got theater tickets through a scalper”: Someone who buys tickets to an event in order to resell them at a profit. And is it not also scalping if you take reviews from this site to make out of it a new product offer, and sell it for a higher price? We doubt that you will be successful with it. Since Peter Gamma will review your product and will user not come back to www.petergamma.org after that?
